WHAT IS THE LITTER PICK CHALLENGE?

What is the litter pick challenge?

From 22nd September to 28th November 2025, we hosted our annual national competition to see which institution could collect the most litter on campus and in their community. The competition had four categories: University, College, Secondary School, and Primary School. Winners in each category received a free Hedgehog House and a bag of hedgehog food for their campus, courtesy of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
Every participant, regardless of their team’s final position, will receive a digital certificate. By joining this challenge, volunteers will help to protect hedgehogs and other wildlife from becoming trapped or injured by litter, which can lead to suffocation or severe harm. Unfortunately, many hedgehogs die each year due to litter-related incidents. By participating in the Big Hog Friendly Litter Pick Challenge, you will also help your institution towards becoming a Hedgehog Friendly Campus or School!
